Handmade, organic buckwheat and lavender meditation cushionsChant Malas
***These amazing meditations have been hand-woven, from scratch, at the Ashadeep centre in Guwahati, India (see below for more information), and then stuffed by me using organic buckwheat hulls from Ormskirk in Lancashire, UK and organic dried lavender from Provence, France. They have been created by humans, not machines, and with so much love at each stage; each is completely unique.***
***Each cushion has a lining, into which the stuffing has been placed. This lining has a drawstring which has been tied tightly to ensure that there is no leakage. This is then covered by the drawstring coloured cover that you see in the image.***
***Each cushion is approximately 23ins long (when stuffed) and 7ins high. I designed these in collaboration with Ashadeep and did so with the view that they are sturdy without being too rigid and hold the hips higher than the knees. You could sit on the cushions either lengthways in a cross-legged position or with the shins either side.***
As you may know know, I’ve been working with Ashadeep, a charity in Guwahati that works with women and children (and now men) with learning, social and mental health challenges who have been made homeless for a variety of reasons, for a number of years now. I won’t go into detail here as all the info is here but suffice it to say that this charity is doing incredible work to ensure that the women (who I buy these supplies from) in their care are safe and able to work in a setting supportive to their needs, which pays them fairly, directly to their own bank account and ensures that they always have a bed and food. I’m in awe of what they do and am always so thrilled to support them by buying their textiles.
